Car Hire for Driving Test
Showing up to your test in the wrong car can throw off even a confident driver. Our car hire for driving test gives you a dual control automatic car you already know, across Morwell, Traralgon, Moe and Churchill.
WHY CAR HIRE FOR YOUR DRIVING TEST MAKES SENSE
Not everyone has a roadworthy car ready for test day. Some learners share a car with the rest of the family and cannot guarantee it on the right date. Others only have access to a manual car but plan to sit their test in an automatic. Either way, turning up without a suitable vehicle is one of the few things that can stop a test before it even starts.
Car hire for your driving test solves that problem and removes a second one at the same time. Instead of driving an unfamiliar hire car for the first time on test day, you sit your test in the same automatic car you have already trained in, with dual controls fitted for extra safety.
What's Included in Your Car Hire
Car hire for your driving test is built to remove every avoidable stress from test day. Here is what comes with it.
- Use of a fully insured, dual control automatic car
- A short pre test lesson so the car feels completely familiar
- A drive to your test location with your instructor following
- Time before your test to settle any last minute nerves
- The same car used throughout your lessons, not a different vehicle on the day
- Support getting home again once your test is finished
Our goal is simple. Remove the one thing that could go wrong on test day that has nothing to do with your driving.
We help you develop safe driving habits, practical road skills and the knowledge to handle everyday driving with care.
Why Learners Book Car Hire for Their Driving Test
Hiring a car for your driving test is not only for learners without a vehicle. Many people choose it because it makes test day simpler, more comfortable and easier to manage.
- No suitable car available: Use a fully insured vehicle that meets driving test requirements.
- Automatic test booking: Ideal if you have been learning in an automatic car.
- Drive with confidence: Sit your test in a vehicle you already know and trust.
- Avoid last-minute problems: No worrying about roadworthy checks, insurance or unexpected vehicle issues.
- Support from your instructor: Arrive with someone who knows your driving and can help you prepare before the test.
Avoid Instant Rejection on Test Day
VicRoads testing officers are incredibly strict about the vehicle you use for your practical drive test. If your personal or family car fails their safety checklist on the morning of your test, your booking is cancelled on the spot, and you lose your test fee.
- Dashboard warning lights: If your check engine, SRS airbag, or ABS light is glowing on your dashboard, the examiner will refuse to start the test.
- Handbrake accessibility: VicRoads requires a centrally located park brake that the examiner can easily reach in an emergency—cars with electric button brakes or foot-operated park brakes often get rejected unless dual controls are fitted.
- Blown globes or cracked lenses: A single faulty brake light, high beam, indicator, or number plate light will cause an immediate, automatic cancellation of your appointment.
- Worn or underinflated tyres: Tyres must have at least 1.5mm of tread depth across the entire surface, and any visible bald spots or uneven wear will cut your test day short.
- Windscreen chips and cracks: Even a tiny chip or crack in the driver’s line of sight, or within the sweep of the windscreen wipers, is a major compliance failure.
- Speedometer visibility: The testing officer must have a clear, unobstructed view of the speedometer from the passenger seat, which is a common issue in some modern car shapes.

Ready to Lock In Your Car for Test Day?
Book our car hire for your driving test and walk in already familiar with the vehicle, the controls and the road ahead.
The Test Routes We Prepare You For
Knowing the test route matters just as much as knowing the car. Before your test, we cover the roads your examiner is likely to use, including:
- Morwell local roads including Commercial Road and the surrounding streets
- Roundabouts near the local test centre, a common trouble spot for many learners
- Quiet streets used for reverse parking and three point turns
- Multi lane roads for lane changes and merging under pressure
- School zones and pedestrian crossings examiners often watch closely
- Busier sections through Traralgon for higher speed driving
- A final practice run on test day itself, right before you go in
Who Books Car Hire for Their Driving Test
- Learners without regular access to a roadworthy car
- Learners who trained on an automatic and need one for the actual test
- Anyone whose usual car has failed a recent roadworthy check
- Learners who feel calmer sitting their test in a familiar vehicle
- International students and overseas drivers without a registered local car
- Parents who would rather their teen test in a dual control car for extra safety
Car hire is booked alongside your lessons, not as a separate, unfamiliar add on. By test day, the car feels like an extension of the lessons you have already done.
